Pirate Practice.

Ay, matey!

So, the eye doctor prescribed 2 hours a day of pirate practice for E. We're hoping this will help train his brain to start using his left eye, which is the one with the prescription. With the prescription in his glasses as it is, it should bring the vision to match that of the right eye, but his brain isn't making it work. He could only see the largest of the pictures that were held up. One step smaller and he couldn't make it out. So, luckily, he was a pirate for Halloween last year so we are well equipped to begin this new regime. Today being the first attempt at this - I hope it goes well - especially since we decided the best time to do this was in the morning when he's not tired and onery and this also happens to be the time he's at the daycare lady's house during the week! He made sure I remembered to bring the pirate stickers (sticker eye patches) and his pirate hat so this is a good sign so far that he might be excited about this. It's probably going to be a little bothersome to him for the first little while though, especially since he really can't see a whole lot out of the eye the patch is forcing him to use, but hopefully he builds the strength he needs quickly!

Maybe we'll put potty training on hold while we adjust to this....

The other appointment we had yesterday was his 3-year check-up with the pediatrician and it went great! The doctor even let him try out the stethoscope, and if you know my child, you know that he loves playing doctor so this was awesome for him! He also commented on how well his speech is doing and that makes me happy. It also makes me giggle a little because I know how much practice he gets talking! He's definitely a yacker!
